The Mattituck High School baseball team enjoyed the most successful season since it started playing baseball in 1920. And now the awards are flowing in.

The Tuckers, who went 27-1 and won the first state championship in their history, did quite well for themselves when the New York State Sports Writers Association all-state teams were announced. To lead things off, Joe Tardif, a junior pitcher/center fielder, was named the Class B Player of the Year and the Tuckers’ coach, Steve DeCaro, was chosen as the Class B Coach of the Year.

Two other Tuckers received all-state honors. James Nish, a senior pitcher/left fielder, made the fourth team, and senior pitcher/shortstop Marcos Perivolaris was named to the fifth team.

Southold senior pitcher Alex Poliwoda, who helped the First Settlers reach the state semifinals, made the Class C third team.

Shoreham-Wading River sophomore shortstop/pitcher Brian Morrell was named to the all-state Class A second team.

Correction: Brian Morrell was named to the second team, not the fourth.
